Seppuku Tattoo is proud to
be host to the Drowning Creek Art Gallery, showcasing some of the finest
silk screened concert posters and rock art collectibles on the east coast.
Although Drowning Creek prints have appeared in galleries, exhibitions,
and in Hard Rock Cafes internationally, this is the first time the studio
will have a dedicated space that serves as both art gallery and storefront
for their work.

Drowning Creek has primarily labored producing concert posters for some
of the biggest names in music, and the majority of the work is used for
promotion for the bands and venues, like 311, The Allman Brothers, the
Grateful Dead, Social Distortion, Danzig, Patti Smith, Godsmack, Incubus,
Suicidal Tendencies, Murphy’s Law, Agnostic Front, The Circle Jerks,
Less Than Jake, New Found Glory, The Wailers, Flogging Molly, Hatebreed,
The Strokes, The Reverend Horton Heat, Insane Clown Posse, Audioslave,
and Savannah’s own Perpetual Groove. The majority of these prints
that aren’t used as adverts are sold at the show, and the remaining
posters are usually fought over by collectors online, or at the festivals
and concerts Drowning Creek attend as vendors.

In addition to the art created by Drowning Creek owner Jeff Wood, and
Seppuku’s own Johnny Thief, the studio collaborates with many artists
from all over the world, such as Coop, Frank Kozik, Jermaine Rogers, EMEK,
Justin Hampton, Richard Biffle, Mikio Kennedy, Alan Forbes, Jason Goad,
James Decker, and Mike Martin, to name just a few. The gallery will stock
hard-to-find limited edition concert poster art by these artists, as well
as glicées, lithographs, original art, books, and other highly
coveted schwag.

Drowning Creek Studio’s is located in the mountains of Commerce,
Georgia, housed in a converted slaughterhouse. The main silk screen press
is dead center of the killing floor, the poster archive in the massive
deep freeze, and shipping and packing is all done on stainless steel surgical
tables. Overhead, skateboard decks and eclectic art hang from the rails
that carcases used to dangle from. The walls are all metal, so posters
are hung with magnets.

Owner Jeff Wood is one of the most accomplished artists in the field of
screen printing, was one of the first to integrate digital technology
into the process, invented many of the processes used industry wide, &
is a nationally revered vanguard in the print making industry. His articles
for trade papers & his amazing body of work for some of the biggest
names in the music business has inspired an entire generation of adherents.
Jeff has been a successful creative director, oversaw several impressive
start ups, & is currently operating Drowning Creek at peak capacity.
Jeff's work is felt throughout
the entirety of "The Art of Modern Rock: The Poster Explosion,"
no small feat for a book of 500 pages & featuring nearly 400 artists.

The second half of Drowning Creek, Judy concentrates on the business end
of the creative entity of the studio, having been a business owner herself,
owning & operating a silk screen operation in Louisiana, before teaming
up with Jeff to form Drowning Creek.

Drowning Creek Studio LLC, designs and prints limited edition event and
tour posters for bands, labels, and special events. They also handle a
variety of other design projects ranging from CD packaging, ad-mat, and
other merchandise design. Jeff and Judy have over 35 years of combined
experience in screen printing, licensing, design, advertising, and merchandising.

DCS prints primarily on Living Tree Paper® with resin-based, eco-friendly
UV inks. There are no nasty solvents used in the printing process. The
degradable celluloid film positives are generated digitally, so there’s
no developing chemicals. Biodegradable soy-based Franmar chemicals are
used for clean-up and reclaiming needs. Packing materials and boxes are
recycled, and waste water is triple-filtered. Printing doesn’t get
much more environmentally conscious than that.
In the weeks to come, this
site will feature shots of the gallery, and also announce any in store
presentations that we have planned. For more information about Drowning
Creek, or to purchase any of their collectible art prints online, visit
them at drowningcreek.com.
